From our friend Jack Kurzweill of the Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club:

In advance of President Obama’s announcement of his Afghanistan policy, Congresswoman Barbara Lee will speak against escalation of the war in a press conference/rally on Monday, Nov. 23rd at noon at the Federal Building in downtown Oakland. This is an important moment in the anti-war movement and it will be even better if there are a VERY LARGE number of people there to participate. This is one of those times that the size of the crowd really counts. Alameda and San Francisco Counties were the heartland of support for Obama and it is important to let him know that his core supporters oppose escalation.

Tom Hayden is flying up from LA especially to attend this rally. If Tom thinks it’s that important, surely those of you in nearby Marin can schlepp across the bridge–right?

Words for Acts

An avidity to punish is always dangerous to liberty. It leads men to stretch, to misinterpret, and to misapply even the best of laws. He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself.
