Dems: Battle Royale
For the remaining days until the Connecticut primary pitting Joe Lieberman against Ned Lamont I will post something daily on the events there. I hope you have all been following closely. It’s just about the most exciting contest we are likely to see for a while. Even if Lieberman squeaks it out against Lamont it is clear that new forces are coming into play in the Democratic party — evidenced by the trotting after Joe by almost every pooh-bah with a (D) after hiser name [”Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo., made his pitch for Lieberman in both Spanish and English at the Iglesia Cristiana Buen Pastor… Later, U.S. Sens. Joe Biden, D-Del. and Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii, campaigned with Lieberman at other events. Bill Clinton has also lent his support (finger in the throat gesture)]. I get why they are there — covering their donkeys so to speak, in case Joe wins. It’s fairly nauseating nonetheless.
Nice shot here of Joe enjoying his buddy George’s great sense of humor.
There is palpable excitement in the air over Lamont and a show of interest and strength from newcomers and old hands [Maxine Waters, my candidate for Queen for a Month, put in an all out effort for Ned] ready to brawl over how decisions are made about representing the people of Connecticut, and by implication everywhere in the nation.

The other major politico who was there last week, campaigning for Lieberman in Stamford and Norwalk, was Barbara Boxer.
Meanwhile Maxine Waters was knocking on every other door in New Haven. No matter what her lapses in judgment may have been at times, you gotta love her.
The only thing I would say about the race is, since there’s not much we can do to influence the outcome in CT (still time to contribute however: http://nedlamont.com/), that you should put some time and effort in where you CAN make a difference, e.g., for the McNerney-Pombo race, only an hour+ away. Rooting is one thing, working hard is another. To volunteer or contribute, go to http://www.jerrymcnerney.org/.
