Libby, Plame, White House, Conspiracy…

Filed under: Bush Administration | Corruption | FrontPage — by Will Kirkland @ 8:33 am

I haven’t had time to read the Dickerson article yet but if FireDogLake likes it — and now mainstream reporters are acknowledging bloggers for good reporting — that’s good enough for me. I didn’t want you to miss this.

Well, well, well…can you say concerted effort to discredit Wilson, planned carefully by folks at the White House, executed with precision planning, and…conspiracy? John Dickerson, formerly of Time Magazine, has a doozy of a two-part story on Slate. He lays out the timeline of his involvement in Administration leaks on Joe and Valerie Wilson. And it isn’t pretty.

If Fitz was trying to flush something out of the underbrush with his letter to Libby’s lawyers, he’s gotten a whole brace of fat pigeons with this missive.

The Dickerson article is pretty much as described - well worth a read. It directly implicates Rove as the guy who outed Plame to Matt Cooper and also places him at the center of an orchestrated effort by numerous administration flunkies to discredit Wilson by focusing reporters on the issue of who “sent” him to Africa.

Although Bush himself isn’t DIRECTLY implicated, this all occurred during his overseas trip to Africa while reporters were actively hounding him with questions about cooked intelligence and Wilson’s op-ed piece, which had just come out. Dickenson doesn’t go there, but he does characterize Rove’s actions as “protecting the boss”. My own take is that the boss almost had to be well aware of what Rove was doing to defend him from the questions of reporters.
