Greek Government Wiretapped

Filed under: FrontPage | Corruption — by admin @ 1:55 pm

Modernity catches up with modern Greece — cell phones and wire(less) tapping. By whom? For what? God only knows, at this point. Investigators may discover and tell attentive ears. Or not, since we are all so modern now and believe that some corruption is more equal than other.

A wiretapping scandal has erupted in Greece, throwing the government and its people into a chaotic frenzy over just who cause such an egregious breach of national security. Last week, it was revealed that the phones of Greece’s top government officials have been wiretapped since before the Olympics in 2004 until March 2005, when the wiretaps were discovered.

The victims? Prime Minister Costas Caramanlis, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense, top military officials, the nation’s top law enforcement officials, phones at the US Embassy, Greek EU Commissioner Stavros Dimas, and even the Prime Minister’s wife.
