Life and death at the border.

On Thursday, February 16, photographer Francisco Dominguez will present a slide show illustrating life and death at the US/Mexico border. His presentation will begin at 7:00 PM at the College of Marin Student Services Building staff lounge, 835 College Avenue, Kentfield.

Mr. Dominguez has documented indigenous peoples of the Americas as well as Chicanos in the U.S., and for 18 years he has used his art to educate others about the injustices and inequality suffered by immigrants from the south seeking a living wage.

Francisco will discuss why workers risk injury, imprisonment, and death to find jobs to support themselves and their families. He will address the realities faced by undocumented immigrants in the U.S., including the jobs they are offered, their living conditions, disintegration of family structure, and erosion of cultural values. He will provide an update on current legislation that will make border crossing even more dangerous and explain the importance of workers’ remittances to the economies of countries below our southern border.

This event is co-sponsored by the Marin Interfaith Task Force on the Americas and College of Marin Students for Social Responsibility. A donation of $5-10 is requested. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Refreshments. Wheelchair accessible. For information, please call 415/924-3227, email mitf@igc.org or go to www.mitfamericas.org.
