The Bush Legacy: Jeb, Inc.

Filed under: Bush Administration | Corruption — by Bob Zuber @ 2:58 am

Sydney Freedberg of the St. Petersburg Times provides this analysis of Jeb Bush’s post-office business dealings, perhaps a foretaste of what we shall expect once ‘W’ has cleared his belongings from the white house: ” Besides “speechifying,” as Bush calls it, the ex-governor has landed lucrative roles in corporate America. He works for three big firms, all of which did business with state government during his tenure.

Through Campbell, his spokeswoman, Bush said no company or organization ever got favorable treatment from state government to further his post-office plans. Campbell called the Times’ questions about his recent ventures baseless, preposterous and offensive.”

This elicits a big yawn–as in, “so what else is new?” I think it would be hard to find any former “insider”, decorated general included, who would not be capitalizing on his or her connections after leaving office. There is a 2 year waiting period constraint on registering as a lobbyist after holding public office, but of course there are many ways to get around it. Shouldn’t more democratically oriented groups work a little harder to recruit these insiders?
